Glasgow City vs Rangers Women: Lee Gibson says "sky is the limit" ahead of Sky Sports Cup final as goalkeeper eyes historic domestic treble

Lee Gibson claims “the sky is the limit” ahead of Sunday’s Your Site Cup final as the Glasgow City co-captain sets sights on a domestic treble.

City meet cup holders Rangers at Fir Park, hoping to win the first piece of major silverware of the season. They also have a four-point advantage at the top of the SWPL and face Celtic in the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup next month.

Eleven years on from her last triumph in this competition, Gibson is confident the league leaders can compete on all fronts.

"At this club, it's not a successful season if you don't win anything," the Scotland international told Your Site.

"Of course, we always look to the league campaign to make sure that we get into Europe and we have been able to do that for a number of years.

"But the expectation is to win and be the best, that's why you want to play with this club. That's the standard that is always there and the demands are there for you to be a winner.

"The pressure comes from what we put on ourselves and the expectation from the club is that we're here to deliver trophies.

"The sky is the limit. You have to look at a treble.

"We don't want to look too far ahead, but the first bit of silverware is on Sunday.

"We know if we put the performance in that we know we can and have done previously, we can be right up there. It gives us a lot of confidence going into the split from the games that are left."

The legendary goalkeeper has won 19 major honours across her two spells at the club but hasn't had her hands on this trophy since 2015.

She is hoping to bring an end to a seven-year wait for a domestic cup against Rangers this Sunday:

"Of course, there are still three competitions to play for. It doesn't determine, obviously, the full season, but I think it puts you in a good place. It's good for confidence levels as well.

"We've been in cup finals previously and, yeah, we've come up short. This club expects and demands silverware year on year and we haven't delivered that.

"The pressure is on us as players is to go and play free, play with a lot of freedom, play with no fear and just go and enjoy the actual showcase itself.

"It's going to be on a good pitch in front of fans. So, yeah, just go out and enjoy it and show what we're all about.

"Winning silverware is huge. It's so enjoyable. You never, ever get tired of it.

"My experiences here at this club, I've been really fortunate to pick up a lot along the way, but take the league aside, cups has been something that has been missing for us for the last few seasons.

"We can put all that right on Sunday and there's no better feeling than lifting the first trophy of the year."
